FLOATING GARDENS, a green scenery at the entry of Brussels, BE

As part of larger vision to reorganize the entrance of the City of Brussels, in association with Sou Fujimoto Architects, we won the public competition for structuring and create a new identity for the Delta area. We propose a building that connects people to a vegetal nest in an urban landscape.

As part of larger vision to reorganize the entrance of the City of Brussels, in association with Sou Fujimoto Architects, we won the public competition for structuring and create a new identity for the Delta area. We propose a building that connects people to a vegetal nest in an urban landscape.

A unique roof is modelled as a verdant blanket covering the buildings, sheltering the different functions. This binding architectural element offers shared hanging gardens, private terraces, technical opportunities (solar panels, rainwater collector, etc.) and protections against wind, sun and rain. These inhabited urban green fields present unspoiled views up to the Forêt de Soignes and (re)discovering of the surrounding landscape. The curves of the fifth façade offer an exclusive blooming silhouette, always different from each point of view, becoming at the same time an actor and spectator of the city skyline. Trees, brushes, herbs will offer an evolutive overlay that reconnects the capital with the seasons and the cycles of nature. The architecture of the firsts floors that host shops, offices, cinema, hostel, etc. serves as protections and filters from the vibrant metropolitan surroundings and creates an oasis at its center. The project generates two new points of attraction: a very special roof with multiple levels of enjoyment and functions; and a serene meeting point for an active a community.
