After an amazing collaboration for their house on the Belgian seaside, our client came to us with good and bad news. The good: he had found a site with views over the ocean. The bad: it was closely surrounded by other properties. So rarely does this type of location come up that he decided to build here anyway.

After an amazing collaboration for their house on the Belgian seaside, our client came to us with good and bad news. The good: he had found a site with views over the ocean. The bad: it was closely surrounded by other properties. So rarely does this type of location come up that he decided to build here anyway.

A brilliant engineer, who always has an eye on the bottom line, our client asked us to design a project where every cubic centimetre of space would be optimised for the small plot. The design plays with the assets of the site, both by making use of very carefully selected views, and by preserving and prioritising the client’s privacy. Views of the sea, the sand dunes, the woods and the sky dominate, while cleverly concealed roof-terraces shield it from the surrounding built-up area. The result is a building that is utterly private, brilliantly compact, and firmly connected to the wind and the waves.
